IFAI Releases 2026 Farm Bill Tracker for Indian Country

FAYETTEVILLE, AR. –Today, the Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative (IFAI) published an amendment tracker monitoring amendments to the 2026 House Farm Bill (H.R.7567)impactingTribal Nations and Native producers.

 Almost 350 amendments were filed with the House Rules Committee ahead of Wednesday’s amendment deadline. IFAI has identified 60 amendments that specifically reference Tribes or impact issues related to Tribes. Highlights include:  

  • Amendment #66: Inserts the Tribal Access to Clean Water Act (H.R.4377/S.2272); 
  • Amendment #72: Inserts the Tribal Conservation Priorities Inclusion Act (H.R.7627); 
  • Amendment #136: Makes permanent 638 authority for Tribes to procure foods for the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR); 
  • Amendment #184: Restores the Local Food Purchasing Agreement (LFPA) program; 
  • Amendment #256: Establishes 638 authority for Tribes to administer the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP);  
  • Amendments #121 and #175: Provides USDA assistance to Tribes and others for establishing Food is Medicine programs; and 
  • Amendment #214: Inserts the Wildfire Emergency Act (H.R.3439 in the 118th Congress) to accelerate wildfire mitigation efforts in the National Forest System in collaboration with Tribes, among others. 

The House Rules Committee will consider filed amendments on Monday, April 27, and a floor vote is expected later next week.
