This session will provide an overview of the pending Farm Bill and we will discuss how to grow our “Native Farm Bill Coalition” and strengthen strategies for national intertribal engagement that creates a strong and unified Indian Country voice in the next Farm Bill. This session will engage tribal leaders in organizing and developing priorities for the 2018 Farm Bill. The Coalition will bring a strong and united voice that creates new opportunities and protects programs benefiting our food producers, nutrition programs, entrepreneurs, and infrastructure.

Please join us for a critical food policy discussion!

The Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative will be hosting a series of Food Policy Roundtables in regional locations around Indian Country in the coming months. Our schedule begins in June and extends through December 2017.

These roundtables are hosted with the generous support of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. At the roundtables we will have policy experts present who will meet with you and your community members to discuss issues related to food access, food sovereignty, and the federal feeding programs that so many of our community members rely upon.

We will discuss challenges, barriers, and opportunities to improve the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), SNAP, WIC, School Lunch, Summer food programs and many others. We are looking for your input and ideas for improving these programs for our people and bringing a set of recommendations forward that can inform future Farm Bills and funding for these programs.

All members of Tribal government staff, leadership, community organizations, grassroots community organizers who care about food and feeding programs are invited to attend.  Please join us at these events when we are in your region and share your thoughts and experience, insights, and expertise.

You can also send us your thoughts and input by emailing us at food@uark.edu.  All ideas are welcome.

We need YOUR help and YOUR voice!

The dates and towns/cities for the roundtables are confirmed.  Additional information about the actual venue locations will be coming on our website shortly. Please save the date, mark your calendar and share widely!  All input will become part of a comprehensive report to be publicly available. All comments and suggestions for improvement and action are welcome and will become part of the report.
